We got up early to see an "Arizona Sunrise" We had forgotten,
however, to compose the shot earlier
and had to rush to the side of the road and grab this one...
Wait'll next time!!
A Cactus in bloom... a real treat for us to see.
A car ride to Arivaca was unbelievable. Rough unpaved road,
gorgeous scenery, and a sunny
afternoon were the ingredients for these shots... a fun day.
Thank you Bob & Jan for running
us around so much, we REALLY got the cook's tour on this trip!!!
Along the road was an old silver mine, so we stopped and looked
around. Someone had pulled the
boards back and entered the thing... not too long ago... Not me,
baby!!!
This was along the better part of the unpaved stretch. There were
times that we went 2 miles per hour
to keep the car together. The road was that rough in some spots.
This photo is a dissapointment. The peaks were a mile away, and
tremendous... the photo cannot
begin to show the way that it actually was.
On the way "home" to Green Valley, we had to go through a permanent
Border Patrol checkpoint
on highway I-19. For some reason, it is 20 miles North of the
border, go figure...
Dead center in the shot is Mount Hopkins with the Smithsonian 6.5 meter
telescope. One white pixel
is all you can see in this shot from the Telescope Visitor Center at
the base of the mountain.
I stuck the camera to the eyepiece of one of those "spotting scopes"
that you see everywhere. This one was
at the Visitor Center, and was not the greatest... There was
supposed to be a community stargaze for the
public on Saturday evening (Feb. 26th), but true to itself... Arizona
would not clear up and let the folks
set up for the evening. It has been rainy and cloudy all month
that we have been here - except for the first
4 days we were here. We were busy and having fun and let those
few clear nights slip by without getting the
telescope out of the car. After all, this is Arizona... nothing
to worry about, we have a whole month to look
around with the scope... WRONG!!! The "bad" weather did not spoil
the trip, we had a wonderful time.
Heading home to Jackson in a couple of days!
